Let's be honest by the time you actually sit down, have a second to yourself and look at the TV, your brain is fried. You don't want a lecture, you don't want to think about your own endless to-do list and you sure as hell don’t need some algorithm-generated "98% Match" telling you what to watch.
You need something that grabs you by the collar, locks you in and completely makes you forget that the real world exists. I’ve been zoning out to some seriously great, deeply twisted television lately. Here is a curated list of the absolute best psychological thrillers streaming right now in 2026. No fluff, just pure, gripping escapism.
1. Imperfect Women (Apple TV+)
If you’ve ever had a long-term friendship and wondered, “What are they actually keeping from me?” this one will give you a healthy dose of paranoia. It stars Elisabeth Moss and Kerry Washington. It’s a brilliant well written mystery adapted from Araminta Hall’s book Imperfect Women (2020).
The Vibe: High-class tension, deep psychological betrayal and top-tier acting.
Why it works for a tired brain: It starts with a murder that shatters a decades-long friendship and every episode peels back a new layer of secrets. It’s juicy, dark and highly addictive. It's perfect for when you just want to get lost in someone else's mess instead of your own.
2. Sweetpea (Starz / Sky Atlantic)
If your daily stress levels have you secretly wishing you could just... delete certain annoying people from existence, Rhiannon is your new dark-comedy spirit animal. I love, love, love Ella Purnell. She's an invisible administrative assistant who finally snaps and turns to a life of calculated, chaotic murder.
The Vibe: Dexter meets Fleabag. Dark, razor-sharp and hilariously twisted.
Why it works for a tired brain: It is pure, cathartic, pitch-black humor. Watching an overlooked woman completely reclaim her power in the worst (and most entertaining) way possible is the exact kind of escape you need after a long day of playing nice.
3. Mr. Inbetween (Hulu)
This is my personal favorite. It's the ultimate "if you know, you know" hidden gem. It ran for three seasons and I'm still wondering why this is not still running. If you haven't watched it yet, quite frankly, I envy you getting to experience it for the first time. It follows Ray Shoesmith, a dry, deadpan Australian hitman who is trying to balance his criminal career with being a good dad, a supportive brother, and a decent boyfriend. Side note: :ok for The Magician on Tubi, it's the prequel to this.
The Vibe: Gritty, hilarious, surprisingly moving and deeply authentic.
Why it works for a tired brain: If you only have 30 minutes, don't waste your time with anything else. The episodes are a tight, punchy 30 minutes. Ray handles absolute monsters with a calm, terrifying efficiency, but then can argue with his kid about eating her vegetables. It is the perfect blend of tension and everyday relatability.
